 iloiloneed your help, typhoon Frank

(posted by Eric Dee of Byahilo.com)

Last weekend the sixth typhoon to enter the Philippine area of responsibility has ravaged most of Panay Island, some areas of Negros Occidental, Leyte, and left several towns and cities flooded.

Typhoon Frank (International Name: Fengshen) claimed hundreds of lives, destroyed hundreds or even thousands of homes destroyed, and leaving a multitude of people with nothing to eat and nowhere to stay. One of the most damaged areas in the Philippines is the province of Iloilo. Until now, electricity has not yet been restored. Potable water is very very limited. And the food is scarce.

The very beautiful and charming Iloilo that I get used to is very different from the Iloilo after it has been damaged by the latest Philippine typhoon. Trees have fallen and blocked roads. Bridges have been damaged. Villages have been flooded. Many residents were left homeless, and properties damaged.

And just today, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas relayed a message through a friend, and asked us to help them stand up once again. I am asking for your support to please help our fellow Filipinos especially those in Iloilo. Small deeds done by the many goes a long, long way.

You can share your old (but still usable) clothes, canned goods, rice, etc. Many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are receiving donations in cash and in kind for the Typhoon Frank victims.

If you do not know any NGO who does relief operations for the Typhoon victims in Iloilo, you may also bring your donations to the ABS CBN Foundation SM Foundation or the Task Force Noah of Katoliko.org

Alternatively, you can also course your donations through the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC). Bank deposits can be made at the following accounts of Philippine National Red Cross:

Metrobank, Port Area Branch Peso account number: 151-3-041-63122-8 Dollar account number: 151-2-151-00218-2
Swift Code: MBTC PH MM

Bank of the Philippine Islands, Port Area Branch
Peso account number: 4991-0010-99
Type of Account: Current

Bank of the Philippine Islands, UN Branch
Dollar account number: 8114-0030-94
Type of Account: Savings
Swift Code: BOPI PH MM

You can also do an online donation through the Philippine National Red Cross website

For SMS or text donations, just text REDAMOUNT to 2899 (for Globe) or 4483 (Smart); For G-cash, text DONATEAMOUNT4-digit M-
PINREDCROSS to 2882.

Local in-kind donations could also be sent to the PNRC national headquarters in Manila or donation pickups may be arranged. For other inquiries, you can contact their hotline at 143 or +63 2 527 0000.

Let’s all do our share in helping our fellow Filipinos.

I'm Berniemack Arellano, just a simple and boring guy who wants to go amok whenever he's being prevented going somewhere else.

Inspired by the Lonely Planet/Pilot Guides series, I desperately went on to see places and culture as a cure to absolute monotony of life in the early 21st Century despite of financial incapabilities.
